My Holiday To Do List

Did you survive Thanksgiving?  I barely did.  The weather took a nasty turn right after we finished dinner so we packed the kids up with leftovers and pie and shipped them off.  We’ve faired well during the icy mess that has taken over Kansas.  Sunday it was above freezing so all the precipitation came down as rain.  We are on day four of rain or freezing rain.  I’m ready for some sunshine.  The good thing about the weather though it’s been too icky to brave the outside so my sewing machine and I have spent lost of quality time together.  So what’s on my list?

I have a bunch of gifts to sew.  I need to make at least 3 more bowl cozies and a casserole carrier for the work gift exchange.  I also need to blog about the casserole carrier.  They are super handy to have around.  I also promised a friend I would make her a set of the cozies and a matching casserole carrier.
I also have three quilts to make.  I know what was I thinking?  Each one of the boys will get a quillow of their own.  This is a great because it means I can go back and finish that UFO blog series.  Half square triangles are my least favorite thing to make.  I haven’t found a way that doesn’t either require paper piecing or a bunch of trimming.  I’m not a fan of either but, one of the quilts is all half square triangles.  I’m not even sure what I’ll do for the other one.  They each picked a fat quarter bundle that had 5 different fabrics, they are both the same fabrics just in different colors.  The third quilt will have to remain hush, hush, here because the person it is for might see it.  I will tell you that I’m doing it as a leader ender project right now.  That way I’m making progress on two quilts at a time.  The postage stamp quilt will just have to wait until after the holidays are over.
I also really want to do Bonnie Hunter’s mystery quilt.  The first clue went out Friday.  I don’t even have fabric picked out for it and by the time I do have time to get the fabric I will be two clues behind.  I’m going to try to squeeze it in though, it just looks like a fun thing to do on the weekends to give myself a short break.  I’m not planning to make the full queen size quilt, half that so I have a nice throw on my chair to cuddle up in.
I also need to make gifts for the adults in my life.  I know a lot of people head off to the store for purchased gifts and they are certainly easier but I’ve become known for my hand crafted gifts.  People seem disappointed when they get something from a store instead of something from my hands.  I’ll need to make a list of people and parties so I can make sure everyone gets something.  I’m sure I’ll be pulling ideas from my the 12 quick sew gifts and my holiday gift round up
My husband and I will be upgrading our phones, getting new cases, and buying each other some quilting related notions.   We also join the block of the month club at our local quilt shop.  I’m both excited and sad for the upcoming block club.  I’m excited that it’s an Eleanor Burns project, it’s actually her block of the month from 2012.  That means all of the videos are on her YouTube channel so if I’m not sure what to do I can just pull the video up.  The down side is, I’ve been watching the videos and they are a little more in depth than the blocks we just finished.  That means I won’t be able to put them off until the night before.
So what are you crafting up for gifts this year?
