Quiltville Mystery Quilt Allietare - My color palette

I wasn't going to do Bonnie Hunter's mystery quilt.  I didn't have time.  Between work, the holidays, the festivities that go along with the holidays, making gifts, and keeping the blog up there wasn't time to squeeze in another quilt project.  It didn't matter that I adore Bonnie and love reading her blog or watching quilt cam.  I just wasn't going to be able to do it.  The first clue came out on Black Friday.  I saved it because, I might want to do it later.  Then I watched quilt cam on the Sunday after Thanksgiving and I was jealous that I couldn't join in on the conversation.  I wasn't doing the mystery, I wasn't part of the group.  I've never been good at not being part of a group that I like.  So I decided  I would join in on the mystery.  Here's the problem, I didn't get my fabric until Saturday so I am now two clues behind.  So I'm going to have to squeeze clues 1 and 2 in before Friday when clue 3 rolls out.  I'm not going to be making the full version of the quilt.  I'm going to be doing half the units.  I am in desperate need of a lap quilt for myself.  So this one is going to be for me, finally!

That's all my fabric.  If you are following along with Bonnie you'll notice that my fabric isn't the same as Bonnie picked.  One reason is I'm using my reds for another project.  I also like to be a little different if I have the option.  It'll allow me to have a slightly different quilt than everyone else.  It also meant I didn't have to purchase a lot of fabric, which is a huge bonus right now.

This is my gray fabric.  I have had my eye on this fabric for awhile.  It's one of those fabrics that if it was in my stash I wouldn't have cut it.  So buying it when I had a project for it was the way to go.  I can't wait to see it in the quilt.  This is the only fabric that won't be scrappy.

These are my blacks.  I did buy a few new pieces to throw into my black stash mainly because they were 50% off.  I can't resist 50% off fabric.

Instead of reds I'm going with green.  Green is one of my favorite colors.  I had been saving my greens for something else but by the time I get around to that project I'm sure I will have restocked my green scraps.

Instead of gold I'm going with blues.  The main reason I picked blue is I have a few pieces that I didn't know what to do with.  Like the Ford fabric you see here.  What quilt could I possibly put that fabric into?  So it's going into this scrappy quilt.

Here are my neutrals.  Again I pulled fabrics that I wasn't sure where to put them in any other quilt.  I'm not sold on the fabric with a little orange so it may get dumped.  It looked OK on the table but after seeing it in pictures I'm not sold on it.  I am thankful that I am going to get rid of the fabric with chickens on it.

  2. Bonnie's mysteries are addictive!

It won't take long to catch up. I'm making quarter quantities, and just did step 1 and 2 in a day and a bit.
