What do you do if you need lots of fabric with crisp folds? You come up with a way to do it quickly! The block of the month from our local quilt shop last year was a three dimensional quilt. All of the dimensional parts required fabric to be folded and ironed. Some blocks took a lot of pieces and a lot of time to press. We also needed to keep them flat while we sewed and to stay that. We didn't always have the time to sit down and sew the whole block in one evening. While watching Man Sewing Rob gave a great tip on how to keep the fold in your fabric. The downfall to Rob's tip was the amount of time it took to get the crisp folds into your fabric. When you have lots to do, you need it done quickly. My husband used his knowledge of heating and cooling to come up with this way. So no matter if you are doing a dimensional quilt or prairie points you can get them all done with crisp folds quickly.
This was actually the first video I did on YouTube. It feels like a lifetime ago now. My husband and I have used this so many times since he came up with. We've even expanded on it. We got a marble tile that we now put the pieces on and then put the candle holder on top. Candy makers use marble to pull the heat out of candy and it works just as well on fabric.
Well now I have to wander around the house to find a glass something that will work. I see a big fat candle in a big fat jar. Hmmmm. I'll give that a try!
I totally want to go quilt now! I hear some beautiful fabric in my craft room calling my name. Lol. Thanks for sharing your tip with us at Merry Monday this week!
Mel has been working with fabric since she was a small child. Coming from a family of quilters Mel quickly figured out that staying on top of color trends in home design set her family's quilts apart from others. When designing Mel believes that the fabric will tell you what it wants to be and you should listen! She has eclectic tastes and loves everything from mid-century mod to classic farmhouse and everything in between! Mel wants to make sure her favorite quilt patterns from the past stay relevant in today's quilting world. Playing with scale, color choice and placement, and using those blocks in things other than quilts opens others to the possibilities of quilts outside of the bedroom. Mel enjoys tweeting and watching HGTV home reno shows, wandering antique shops, drinking good coffee, and listening to music.
I love your fingernails!
