Fingernail Polish Mini Quilt

I love doing new things and when The Fat Quarter Shop asked if I would be interested in doing a mini quilt that looked like a bottle of fingernail polish I couldn't resist.  I love getting my nails done.  This is a remix, the pattern has been out for a while. This fingernail polish mini quilt worked up in no time at all and would make the perfect gift for the nail tech in your life.  You could even personalize it by making it look like the nail tech's signature fingernail polish.  It would also make a great gift for anyone who is obsessed with fingernail polish.

This is a free pattern from The Fat Quarter shop!  When I say it goes together quickly I'm talking 2 and 1/2 hours from pulling the fabric until I had the top done.  For me, it makes it a great gift project!   Due to some technology fails I whipped this out last Monday night after work.  My name didn't get transferred from the sign-up to the master list so I didn't get the emails about the tour coming up this week.  If technology didn't bite me in the hiney once a week I wouldn't know I was still among the living.  So if I can make it in 2 hours after working all day with little kids I know you can do it too!  The hardest part of the whole quilt was the cutting.  I was struggling to count to two that night.

The pattern called for solid fabric.  Guess who has no solid fabric in her stash?  Yeah, this gal!  Well, that's kind of a lie, that little green strip is a true solid but that's all I could find.  The rest is all tone on tone fabrics.  The white fabric isn't even the same tone on tone.  You wouldn't have known if I didn't tell you that now would you?  That's what I love about tone on tone fabric it adds a bit of depth and movement to a piece without overwhelming the quilt.

The green that is the actual fingernail polish is a piece of ice dyed fabric that I did a few years ago that didn't work for the project I was working on.  It has been sitting in my stash waiting to be used.  When I saw it sitting on the shelf I knew it was perfect for this quilt.  To me, it looked like fingernail polish that had been sitting on the shelf too long. I have a few bottles like that!  I try doing something different but I really like my OPI "I'm Not Really A Waitress" and just go back to it.  So all of those fun colors I have purchased over the years just sit on the shelf separating out and collecting dust.

I hope that you will make the fingernail polish mini quilt too.  Be sure to share your projects using #SewSolidRemix and tag both (@fatquartershop) and (@homeecmel) so we can see and share your work!  You can also join my Facebook group and share your work there!
