T-Shirt Quilt Block - Fun In The Sun - July Quilt Block Mania

It's time for quilt block mania again.  July's theme was travel and when I think of travel I think of souvenir t-shirts and shot glasses.  I just wasn't sure that I could pull a shot glass off as a quilt block so I went with the t-shirt quilt block.  A t-shirt also gives me a little more play area for decoration and that's the fun of this super simple quilt block.

Quilt Block Mania Info

If you are new to quilt block mania WELCOME!  Each month a group of quilt designers designs a quilt block around a color palette and a theme. I always do two digital renderings of my quilt block, one using the codes from the color palette and one using actual fabrics on the market.  Sometimes my final block is the third colorway because I either a) messed up or b) I used the closest fabric I had on hand. This month I have included several colorways because there are just some really awesome fabrics on the market today that fit our color theme. You can get my pencil quilt block and my Christmas tree star quilt block from previous months.

At the very end of this post, you will find links to all the other quilt blocks for the month of July.

T-Shirt Quilt Block

I have a lot of scraps of HTV laying around.  I'm sure most people with a Cricut have the same problem.  As a quilter, I'm used to figuring out how to use up scraps of fabric but scraps of vinyl wasn't something I had any experience doing.  I made those scraps by putting designs on t-shirts, to begin with, so I decided I could use them to decorate my t-shirt quilt block.  Now if you don't have a Cricut machine you can decorate your shirt with anything you want.  I get all of my vinyl from Expressions Vinyl.  They have great prices and quick shipping.  Plus, they are a small business and I love to shop small any chance I get.  The pattern has a few ideas or you can leave it blank.

Constructing The T-Shirt Quilt Block

The t-shirt quilt block is pretty easy to make.  The trickiest part is the flying geese for the neckline.  I made two separate videos this month.  One for the flying geese and one for the full quilt block.

Making Flying Geese

If you've struggled with making flying geese in the past, struggle no more!  I've put this short tutorial together to show you how to easily correct most mistakes when making flying geese.

Making The Quilt Block

This block goes together very quickly.  It took less than 30 minutes to make the block while filming it.  I know this because I forgot to turn my camera off between steps. (facepalm)
