About The Quilting Room with Mel

Hi, my name is Mel, and welcome to my blog. I work out of my home which is more a live-in quilt studio now that it is just Paul and me. I primarily sew on a vintage sewing machine, usually my supped-up Necchi BU. Much of the inspiration for my work comes from rediscovering the past. I am passionate about quilting and honor this craft by recreating designs from the early days of quilting while incorporating elements that make them new and relevant to modern times. The day that you were born we all were given an opportunity to do something different, do something better than the day before, thus creating beautiful memories for today and future tidbits of history!

When I'm not sewing up a storm or designing a new quilt you can find me watching TV or reading, sometimes I do both at the same time. I love watching HGTV, Marvel movies, Big Brother, Nascar, Project Runway, The Great British Baking Show, and things that make me laugh.

You'll find sometimes find my husband Paul on the blog. He is the sewing machine repair expert here. He became the expert because he's much more mechanical than I am. I can use them but he's really good at fixing them. He's had a lot of practice since we have over 200 sewing machines, both of us have brought them home, and honestly, he's brought more home than I have. When he's not fixing a sewing machine or sewing himself he works as an HVAC/R tech. That is also why he's more mechanical than I am, I work with books for a living, he works with motors.
